Stop gambling with "pet store" coir. Our 650g Coconut Coir Bricks are sourced specifically for mushroom cultivation. While standard garden-center coir is often "pre-loaded" with Trichoderma (the green mold we hate!) to help plant roots, our coir is kept raw, clean, and ultra-low in salinity.

The Mycology Standard

  • Ultra-Low EC (Electrical Conductivity): We source coir with the lowest possible salt content. High salt stunts mycelium growth and leads to small, spindly mushrooms. Our bricks ensure your genetics reach their full potential.

  • Superior Water Retention: One 650g brick is a hydration powerhouse, absorbing 5x it's weight in water. It creates the perfect field capacity every time.

  • pH Balanced: Naturally sitting between 5.8 and 6.8, it provides the ideal slightly-acidic-to-neutral environment that gourmet and medicinal mushrooms love.

  • Triple-Washed & Sifted: We’ve removed the "long fibers" and large chunks, leaving you with a fine, uniform pith that mixes perfectly and hydrates evenly.

How to use Coconut Coir (Pasteurize & Hydrate Simultaneously)

This is the easiest and most popular method for home growers. It uses heat to kill off most competing bacteria while perfectly hydrating your coir.

  1. Place your dry 650g brick into a 5-gallon bucket or a large heat-safe container with a tight-fitting lid.

  2. Boil 3,250 ml (approx. 3.4 quarts) of water.

  3. Pour the boiling water directly over the brick.

  4. Seal the lid immediately to trap the steam.

  5. Wait until the container has cooled to room temperature (usually 6–12 hours). Once cool, give it a good mix—it’s ready to spawn!

  6. Storage: Coconut coir is inert and contains no nutrients so keep it in the sealed container and it will stay clean and hydrated until you're ready to use it

How to Make CVG (Coir, Vermiculite, Gypsum)

If you want a professional-grade bulk substrate that holds moisture longer and provides better structure, follow this recipe:

  1. Combine the following in a 5-gallon bucket:

    • 1 Dry 650g Coir Brick

    • 8 Cups of Vermiculite

    • 1 Cup of Gypsum

  2. Add 4.5 Quarts of boiling water.

  3. Seal the lid and let it sit until completely cool.

  4. Storage: CVG also has a stable shelf life. As long as the bucket stays closed, the mix will stay hydrated and clean, ready for whenever your grain spawn is fully colonized.

How to test "Field Capacity"

Before adding your grain spawn, always check your moisture because the coconut coir can vary slightly in size. Take a handful of the cooled substrate and squeeze it hard.

  • Perfect: Only a few drops of water should come out.

  • Too Wet: If a stream of water comes out, it’s too wet; add a little more dry vermiculite.

  • Too Dry: If no water comes out, add water a little at a time until you reach that "few drops" sweet spot.
